Volunteering
Make a difference, one cat at a time.
Volunteers are the heart of the Safe Haven.
Everything we do, from daily care to helping cats find their forever homes, is made possible by
people who choose to show up, give their time, and care deeply.
If you have ever wanted to make a real impact in the lives of animals, this is your chance.
What volunteers do
Volunteers play a key role in the daily care and wellbeing of our cats.
Much of the work focuses on creating a clean, safe, and comfortable environment where the cats can relax, heal, and thrive while they wait for their forever homes.
Some of the ways you may help include:
- Cleaning and maintaining cat areas
- Scooping and refreshing litter boxes
- Refilling food and water
- Sweeping and mopping floors
- Washing bedding, blankets, and cat furniture
- Helping keep the space calm, safe, and welcoming
These tasks may seem simple, but they are essential. A clean environment helps prevent illness, reduces stress, and allows the cats to feel secure in their space.
At times, volunteers may also be asked to help with transporting animals to and from veterinary appointments or other locations.
We also have volunteers who support the shelter in other ways outside of daily care. This can include helping with events, organizing supplies, assisting with small projects, or lending their skills where needed.
If you have a specific way you would like to contribute, we are always open to hearing from you. There is often room to get involved in ways that match your interests and strengths.
Every bit of help makes a difference, and it all comes together to support the care of our cats. 💜
Volunteer shifts
We offer flexible shifts throughout the week:
- Morning shifts: 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM
- Evening shifts: 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM
You can choose times that work best for your schedule. Even a few hours each week makes a meaningful difference.
Who we are looking for
We are looking for volunteers who are:
- Reliable and able to commit to regular shifts
- Comfortable helping with cleaning and hands-on tasks
- Kind, patient, and compassionate
- Team oriented and willing to learn
No experience is required. We will guide you every step of the way.
A realistic look at volunteering
Volunteering at a shelter is not always glamorous.
Much of the work involves cleaning, routine care, and making sure everything runs smoothly behind the scenes.
But it is also incredibly rewarding.
You will see cats grow stronger, healthier, and more confident. You may even get to watch them find their forever homes.
And Why it matters
Every clean space, every fresh meal, and every moment of care adds up.
Because of volunteers:
- Cats stay healthy
- The shelter continues to operate
- More animals can be rescued
Your time truly makes a difference.
