Become a Foster
Open your home. Change a life.
Why fostering matters
Fostering is one of the most meaningful ways you can help a cat in need.
By opening your home temporarily, you give cats the safety, comfort, and love they need while they wait for their forever family. For some, it’s a chance to grow strong in a home instead of a shelter. For others, it’s a place to heal and recover.
Whether you are caring for tiny kittens or a cat needing medical support, fostering truly changes lives.
Every foster home helps us save more lives.
When a cat is placed in foster care, it opens up space at Safe Haven for another cat in need. Fosters provide one-on-one care, stability, and a home environment that is especially important for kittens and medical cases.
Fostering is not just temporary housing. It is a bridge to a better future.
Foster opportunities
We offer different types of foster placements, and our team will work to find the right fit for your home and comfort level.
Short-Term Fosters
Temporary fosters are essential for some of our most vulnerable cats.
To give kittens under 12 weeks the very best start in life, they are placed in loving homes where they can grow, feel safe, and simply be kittens.
As a short-term foster, you may help care for:
- Weaned kittens between 5 and 12 weeks
- Pregnant cats and moms with newborns
- Orphaned kittens needing bottle feeding
- Cats with short-term medical needs
These placements are typically temporary, lasting until the kittens or cats are ready for adoption.
Medical Fosters
Some cats need a little more support along the way.
Our Medical Foster program is designed for cats who require ongoing care due to age, medical needs, or special circumstances. These cats are placed in loving homes where they can experience comfort, stability, and a true sense of belonging.
Safe Haven continues to cover their veterinary care, allowing you to focus on what matters most: providing love, comfort, and a peaceful home.
In many cases, these placements are long-term or lifelong.
